2nd RIANA Training School on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology
We are pleased to announce the 2nd RIANA Training School, dedicated to ion beam–based techniques for structuring and characterization in nanoscience and nanotechnology. The event will take place at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) in Dresden, Germany, 1-4 June 2026.
This training school combines lectures with 6 hands-on training sessions led by renowned scientific experts and top researchers.
Topics include:
Ion beam basics
Accelerators and instrumentation
Ion beam analysis
Simulation of ion beam damage
Focused ion beam instrumentation
Applications of focused ion beams
Surface patterning using low-energy ion beams
Hands-on training:
Rutherford Backscattering (RBS)
Particle Induced X-ray Emission (PIXE)
Nuclear Reaction Analysis (NRA)
FIB-based sample preparation
FIB-based defect engineering
Scanning Auger Microscopy
The training school is intended for PhD students and early-career researchers/postdocs (up to 5 years after PhD defense).
Registration is free of charge. For selected applicants, the program includes accommodation (single room with breakfast), coffee breaks, snacks during the evening poster session, and a social event. Lunch is at the participant’s own expense and can be taken at the local canteen.
