RIANA Staff Exchange

We are pleased to announce the successful completion of a coordinated staff exchange involving RIANA Junior Scientists, Dr Masedi Carington Masekane from the Ruđer Bošković Institute (Croatia), and Dr Nicolas Gauquelin from the Electron Microscopy Laboratory (EMAT) at the University of Antwerp (Belgium). The exchange was aimed at demonstrating the complementary applicability of ion and electron beams for materials characterisation.

Visits to both laboratories provided practical insights into techniques offered by the RADIATE and eDREAM networks, with the goal of enhancing the service provision of the Smart Science Cluster at RIANA.

The experiments performed focused on investigating heavy ion irradiation effects in metal-halide Perovskite thin films. These were characterised using Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry induced by MeV ions (MeV SIMS), as well as scanning electron microscopy techniques such as SEM and TEM.
